Blogging today has become such a fun that almost all teenagers are having their own blogs. Unlike the courses/assistance which is provided for teachers or educators, blogging doesn’t require any course on blogging basics. Teenagers run a major part of the blogs and they do attract many online predators.
The personal blogs hosted by teenagers can attract many dangerous risks/threats online. Teens have to be very careful when it comes to safety and privacy issues. When they are online they are out in the in world and it is accurate if they have a blog which is open to public. There are many people who target the teens for their identity theft. It is very important for them not to lose their identity as they are starting to get their social security number and credit cards. This is one of the reasons for predators to show interest in teen blogging.
Blogs provide a platform where you can write/post anything. But you have to be very careful as to what you post, as once posted online will stay there forever and many a times it may stand against us. Once you start sending forms for colleges or submit applications for job you may feel embarrassed as to what you have posted years earlier.
In order to promote safe blogging the teens should follow these safety tips to remain safe online.
- Do not give out your personal identifiable information online like your second name, school name, your address or your school team name etc.
- Allow only friends or trusted people to access your blog.
- Before uploading a photo remember everybody else can download it and avoid posting photos which allows others to identify you.
- Check the comments regularly in your blogs and do not respond to embarrassing comments and you can either delete or block them.
- Never meet a stranger whom you met online through blogs/profiles unless you are certain of their identity.
- Be honest about your age when you are signing the membership rules. If you are underage you can check the alternative sites.
- Be aware of your blogging service’s rules and if you violate them, you will be removed from their service.
