Children - More intelligent than us ..more vulnerable than us on the internet

Children form a significant population amongst net users. They are far more intelligent than many of us care to believe. Today morning during a conversation with my wife (she is a school teacher), I was informed by her that a student in her school was caught distributing pornographic pictures amongst his classmates. The student had visited a few pornography sites and had downloaded the content. The bigger mistake, that my wife pointed out, was the fact that the school authorities dismissed it as another incident.

It is high time school authorities started looking at a disciplinary policy that controls the evil effects of internet usage amongst children. It may be possible that the child may be using the internet outside the premises of the school, but still the impact is felt inside. It could be incidents like sharing pornographic content (as mentioned above) or it could be addition of abusive words to vocabulary, cyber bullying classmates outside the school etc.

Schools must realize that the internet influences the children both positively and negatively and they must have strict guidelines in place. And most importantly schools must involve parents and the Government authorities in this process.
