Why is it important to secure wireless networks?

Wireless networks are also known as wi-fi networks which allow the computers to interact with one another using radio signals.
Due to this it is easy to access for others to access in range and pick up the signal or transmit on the same frequency. The wireless networks are at the following risks:
Hacking: Anyone in range can connect to the network and can hack the laptops.
Another concern is bridged connections, between either two wireless networks or a wireless and a wired network. Bridged connections allow for the possibility of hackers to tunnel back over an insecure connection into a possibly secure connection of a particular company.
Eavesdropping: Listening to the information as it is transmitted over the air. This suggests the need for encryption.
Freeloading: The chances of unauthorized users using the connection without your knowledge are high. The confidential mails and documents are at risk.
Protecting wireless networks:
Though we have encryption and access points in wi-fi systems, it varies from one manufacturer to another. We have to follow these precautions:
- Use encryption
- Use access points than ad-hoc
- Use strong passwords to access administrator access.
