Copying or distributing protected works or a product without the permission of the true owner/author of an intellectual property is termed as piracy and internet is a breeding ground for this piracy.

Art, books, films, music, innovations, magazines, software, stories, performances, reports and trademarks are all examples of intellectual property. Accord to law, Intellectual property include copyright, patent, trademark and trade secret. Mainly children and adults are more often proven to online piracy by copying, sharing, taking pirated a thing which is illegal.

Online piracy can be divided into four main areas

Software piracy: Developers suffer greatly, since adults copy software and circulate with friends. They use part of their revenue for research and development. Legitimate consumers feel the effects of online piracy by paying higher price for the products. They also miss out new versions of software due to companies facing loss and drop of sales.

Music piracy: Children use computer to copy programs, songs, videos, or games online and have an exact replica of the original. Illegally copying files affect the entire music community. Online piracy has a very harmful impact on everyone from countless musicians, songwriters, performers, producers, recording engineers and others who use music as their platform.

Pirated Movie: An entire movie takes up at least two CDs. But with the invention of video compression formats, it is possible to fit two or more movies on one CD with near TV quality or bit lower. Also, the invention of DVDs has only made it easier to transfer video to the computer, and the image quality is much high.

Console Video Games (Emulation): Emulators are the software programs that emulate the hardware of the original machine. It allows running Macintosh or Amiga software on any computer and allows children to play games like old arcade, Atari, Nintendo, Sega, and Nintendo 64. Games which cost $40 take 10 minutes to download and 1 MB of disk space, also a CD with the 500 or more games compiled on one for $15 on the black market. A pirated CD can store around 500 ROM images and download the emulator instead of buying the original by savings of over $20,000.
